First Palms To Pines Air Race
Honoring tradition while supporting a new generation of women pilots
Traditionally, the annual Palms to Pines Air Race took place each summer at the end of July or beginning of August, with teams flying from Santa Monica to central Oregon (approximately 750 statute miles).
The race ran consecutively for 40 years until 2009, making it the longest-running all-female air race. Each year, anywhere from 30-60 planes participated with teams or solo pilots from all over the western United States. After a hiatus, in 2022, the race returned, now organized by the LA99s.
- The race is open to women only. Students may fly as passenger or co-pilot.
- Requirement: Primary Pilot must hold a Sport pilot certificate or higher & a minimum of 100 hours of total flight time.
It's a two-day race from California to Oregon:
Day 1: Santa Monica - Modesto (compulsory fly-by) - Red Bluff
Day 2: Red Bluff - Butte Valley (compulsory fly-by) - Madras
